How DishAim handles your data
DishAim is an offline iOS app that helps you aim a satellite TV dish. It uses your phone's GPS, compass and motion sensors to show, live, where the chosen satellite sits in the sky — azimuth, elevation and LNB skew — while you move the dish to match a fixed on-screen reticle. The app ships with a bundled catalogue of public satellite and channel data and works without an internet connection.
DishAim does not collect, store or transmit any personal data that can identify you. The app does not have a backend server. Your location, device heading, tilt readings, camera frames and any satellites you view stay on your device and are never sent to us. For in-app purchases, RevenueCat processes transactions and uses an anonymous app identifier to validate and restore purchases. We only receive your Pro entitlement status.
DishAim asks for "When In Use" location access so it can compute live azimuth, elevation and skew from your current position to the chosen satellite. The app reads device heading and tilt from the motion sensors so the dome view and reticle can show you which way to point the dish. If you enable AR mode, the app asks for camera access so it can overlay the satellite arc on the live camera feed; camera frames are processed on-device only and are never recorded, saved or transmitted. None of this data leaves your device.
DishAim stores only minimal app settings (such as your home satellite, country, voice and haptic preferences and onboarding state) locally on your device. The bundled satellite and channel catalogue is read-only and shipped inside the app.
DishAim does not use third-party analytics, advertising SDKs or tracking technologies. We use RevenueCat only to manage in-app purchases. The app uses Apple's Core Location, Core Motion, AVFoundation and ARKit frameworks to read your location, device orientation and camera frames locally; these readings stay on your device.
DishAim offers a one-time Pro purchase that unlocks the real, accurate satellite positions used for alignment. When you purchase or restore Pro, RevenueCat processes the transaction and uses an anonymous app-specific identifier to associate the purchase with your app installation. Purchase history data is used for app functionality (receipt validation and restore) and analytics (purchase status in our RevenueCat dashboard). This data is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you across apps. No device identifiers or advertising identifiers are collected.
DishAim ships with a read-only catalogue of public reference information about geostationary satellites and the channels they carry. No personal data is contained in this catalogue, and the app does not access, stream or display any broadcast content.
Because all of your data stays on your device, we do not share your location, heading, camera frames or any other personal data with any third party. For purchases, limited information is shared with RevenueCat (such as the anonymous identifier and purchase status) to validate transactions and enable restore.
DishAim is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, there is no personal information for us to access, modify or delete. If you wish to remove locally stored settings, you can uninstall the app from your device.
