How Curb handles your data
Curb is an iOS and iPadOS utility that artificially slows your device's own internet connection — to help you save mobile data, reduce doomscrolling, or test how your apps behave on a poor connection. All traffic shaping happens locally on your device. Curb has no user accounts and no backend server of its own.
Curb does not collect, store or transmit any personal data that can identify you. The app has no account, no sign-in and no analytics. We do not collect your browsing history, the websites or services you connect to, the contents of your traffic, your IP address, or any device or advertising identifiers.
To shape your connection, Curb installs a local VPN configuration on your device using Apple's Network Extension framework. This is the only mechanism iOS provides for an app to measure and rate-limit the device's own traffic. The VPN is local only: your traffic is never routed, proxied or tunnelled through any server operated by us — Curb has no servers. Your connections still reach the websites and services you use exactly as they normally would; Curb only applies the bandwidth, latency, jitter and packet-loss limits you choose, on the device itself. The contents of your traffic are never inspected for advertising or analytics, never recorded, and never sent anywhere by us.
Curb asks to add a VPN configuration the first time you start throttling, so the on-device packet tunnel can shape your connection. You can disable or remove this VPN profile at any time in the iOS Settings app. Curb requests no other permissions — it does not access your contacts, photos, location or microphone.
Curb stores only your own settings locally — your speed presets (download and upload bandwidth, latency, jitter and packet loss), your targeting rules and bundles, the currently active preset, and basic app preferences — using the standard iOS storage in the app's own container. There is no user account and no cloud sync. Live session statistics such as throughput and session totals are shown while a session runs and are not sent off your device.
Curb does not use any third-party analytics, advertising SDKs or tracking technologies. The app's traffic-shaping engine is built on Apple's Network Extension framework together with the open-source hev-socks5-tunnel and lwIP libraries, all of which run entirely on your device. No data is sent to us or to any third party.
Because everything stays on your device, we have no data about you to share. We do not sell, rent or share any personal information — none is collected in the first place.
Curb is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because we do not collect or store any personal data on our servers, there is no personal information for us to access, modify or delete. If you wish to remove everything Curb has stored, you can remove the VPN profile in iOS Settings and uninstall the app from your device.
